Taylor Made Inclusive PE

Every Pupil. Meaningful Participation. Appropriate Challenge.

Inclusive PE should be more than simply allowing pupils to take part.

Taylor Made Inclusive PE helps schools adapt teaching so pupils can access meaningful learning while continuing to experience appropriate challenge.

A practical framework for adapting how pupils access learning.

Core principle

Adapt Access, Not Ambition

The focus is on adapting how pupils access learning, rather than automatically reducing what they are expected to learn.

Taylor Made recommends using Space, Task, Equipment and People to modify activities while maintaining the intended learning outcome wherever possible.

The question should not simply be

“Can this pupil participate?”

It should be

“How can this pupil experience meaningful learning and appropriate challenge?”

Taylor Made Educational Projects

Ideas. Evidence. Practical Solutions.

Taylor Made Educational Projects explore important areas of teaching and learning and turn them into practical approaches, recommendations and resources.

Rather than simply discussing educational ideas, each project focuses on how they can be applied effectively in schools.

Assessment in PE — Making Assessment Useful

Effective assessment should help teachers understand what pupils have learned and determine what needs to happen next.

It should not create unnecessary workload.

Taylor Made Recommendation

PE assessment should focus primarily on what pupils can KNOW and SHOW, with teacher, peer and self-assessment used purposefully throughout learning.

Assessment should:

  • Link directly to curriculum outcomes
  • Use observable evidence
  • Identify strengths
  • Identify specific next steps
  • Help pupils understand their own learning
  • Inform future teaching
  • Remain manageable for teachers

Metacognition & Oracy in PE — Helping Pupils Think About Learning

PE provides powerful opportunities for pupils to think, communicate and reflect.

Taylor Made resources use three stages of metacognition:

Before – Plan

What am I trying to achieve and how will I approach it?

During – Monitor

What is working and what might I need to change?

After – Evaluate

What improved and what should I focus on next?

Purposeful oracy allows pupils to explain decisions, coach partners, justify tactical choices and evaluate performance.

Inclusive PE — Adapt Access, Not Ambition

Inclusive PE should allow every pupil to experience genuine learning.

The question should not simply be “Can this pupil participate?” It should be “How can this pupil experience meaningful learning and appropriate challenge?”

Head, Heart and Hands

PE develops far more than physical technique.

Head

Thinking, understanding, decision-making and tactical awareness.

Heart

Communication, confidence, resilience, responsibility and leadership.

Hands

Physical competence, technique and application.

Taylor Made resources deliberately connect all three areas to the lesson's intended learning rather than treating them as separate additions.

About Mark

About Mark Taylor

Experience that understands schools, teaching and the realities of sustainable improvement.

Taylor Made Education Consultancy was founded by Mark Taylor, an experienced PE teacher, curriculum developer and teaching and learning specialist.

Mark's career has included PE teaching, curriculum development, staff development, mentoring, leadership and wider teaching and learning responsibilities.

Taylor Made Education Consultancy brings this experience together to provide practical support designed around the individual circumstances of schools, teachers and pupils.

After being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2010, Mark has continued working in PE and Teaching and Learning, inspiring staff and pupils and promoting inclusive education.

Experience That Understands Schools

Knowledge built through education, PE and school improvement.

01I have spent my professional career working in education, with experience across Physical Education, curriculum development, teaching and learning, mentoring and school improvement.

02My background in PE has given me a strong understanding of the importance of physical competence, confidence, participation and high-quality curriculum design.

03My wider teaching and learning responsibilities have allowed me to work beyond PE, supporting teachers, reviewing practice, developing resources and considering how curriculum, pedagogy and assessment work together.

Why Taylor Made Education Consultancy?

Schools are different.

  • Their pupils are different.
  • Their staff are different.
  • Their priorities are different.

For that reason, effective educational support should not be based on a one-size-fits-all solution.

Taylor Made Education Consultancy aims to provide support that is:

Practical · Relevant · Progressive · Inclusive · Sustainable

and, most importantly,

Taylor Made to the needs of the school.

My Approach

Leave the school stronger.

I believe effective consultancy should leave a school stronger than it was before.

The aim is not to replace teachers or create dependence on external support.

It is to provide teachers and leaders with the knowledge, resources and confidence to continue improving provision themselves.
